WW2 Dodge D15 Lorries and trucks

Although military pattern Dodges are more commonplace now, my favourites are the Dodges that have the civilian style panelwork up front. Many used by the military during WW2 had this style of front end tinwork (mine included).

This page on old-dodge-trucks will contain information on D15s that gets sent in. If you have a Canadian Dodge D15, and are looking for parts to aid its restoration (aren't we all???) by all means send in some info and a few pictures, and I'll feature it on the relevant page (or create a new page for it!) and you can post your rebuild 'parts wanted' list for all to see.

1943 Dodge D15
Erwin Schmidt

Erwin sent over the following 2 pages of photos showing the D15 that he found, hiding in a barn. A '43 model, it will need a comprehensive restoration but looks to be more or less complete, which is a great place to start work from. Below are the photographs that he has sent over, and some notes on this Canadian Dodge [Page 1] [Page 2]

Dodge D-15

The vehicle is a Dodge D-15. I found it 2004 in a barn close to my home village, around 35km north-east of Vienna, Austria. The former owner, a blacksmith, had owned it since the 1950s, when his father purchased it from an (Allied) armed forces surplus sale. He sold it to me last fall for a very nice price.

Dodge D-15

It is well preserved, the engine runs like a sewing machine, and every screw has been greased!

Dodge D-15

It only has two snags:

1. Itīs been modified to left-hand drive by the owners father. I want to rebuild this again to RHD.
2. The frame has been made longer a few inches for commercial use.
I will cut it back to original or fit a new (old, but original) frame which I already have brought from Holland. The GS body is missing, but I have a sample one here, too. The cargo body on it right now is civil-type, hand-made by the previous owner.

Dodge D-15

Color is civil green, but underneath is olive drab, and under that is yellow/sand. Manufacture date: 2 October 1943, so it must have been painted for desert warfare, but came too late for use in this particular mission theater. So, they appear to have repainted the whole truck in olive drab.
